Remote-only IT consultancy for UK small businesses.
What we cover
A clear list of the IT work YCD can help with remotely — and what we don’t do. If you’re unsure, book discovery and we’ll tell you plainly what the best next step is.
Your Computer Department (YCD) provides remote-only IT support and consultancy for UK small businesses. Based in Beeston, Nottingham.

- Phishing guidance and safer working practices
Suppliers, tools and IT decisions
- Second opinion on quotes and proposals

Examples of common requests
If you’ve got something similar, you’re in the right place.
“Our email keeps breaking”
- Sign-in loops or MFA failures
- Shared mailbox permissions chaos
- Sending issues or customers not receiving emails
“OneDrive keeps duplicating files”

- Misunderstood SharePoint/Teams file locations

“We need to improve security”

- Backup confidence checks
- Reducing recurring risk and mistakes
If the situation is messy or crosses multiple areas, start with discovery.
What we don’t cover
This keeps expectations realistic. If you need something outside this list, we’ll tell you plainly and point you to the right type of help.
Onsite callouts and physical work
- We are remote-only (no site visits).
- Physical installs, cabling, or hardware swaps need local hands.
- We can guide your local person or contractor on a call if needed.
Managed services contracts
- No long contracts or “all you can eat” support.
- We work in booked sessions or defined projects.
- If you need a full MSP, we’ll tell you what to look for.
Development and specialist engineering
- Custom software development.
- Complex network engineering for large environments.
- Enterprise compliance programmes.
If you’re unsure, discovery is the safest first step: Book discovery.
How to choose what to book
Book a session when
- You have one clear problem to fix.
- You need a decision and the options are already known.
- You want focused progress in one block.
Book discovery when
- It’s unclear what the real issue is.
- There are multiple symptoms or moving parts.
- You want clarity and a plan before making changes.
Want to understand the overall approach? How we work.
If you’re unsure, start with discovery
Discovery is designed for messy situations. If you already know what you need, book a standard session.
